Israel: Is Another Intifada on the Horizon?

January 17, 2014

When former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was buried earlier this week at his Sycamore Ranch in the Negev of southern Israel, there was an unusual accompaniment.  Because of the proximity of Sharon's home to the Gaza border and the ever present conflict between Israel and Gaza, the Israeli Defense Forces deployed an Iron Dome missile defense unit nearby to protect against terrorist attack.  In addition, security forces sent messages to Palestinian leaders encouraging them to take steps to prevent such a strike.

Terrorists fire rockets near Sharon's funeral site

Despite the precautions, two rockets fired from Gaza struck close by the ranch just after the funeral service concluded.  Both exploded in an open area, and there was no damage to property and no one was injured.  The rockets used by Palestinian terrorists are almost all unguided—they are simply launched in a general direction without any knowledge or concern for what they might hit.  To the terrorists, striking a school or synagogue is just as good as striking a military base.

Are the peace talks between  to blame?

The nature of life in Israel today is challenging to say the least.  In recent weeks there has been a sharp increase in both the number of rocket and mortar attacks, as well as stabbings, stone throwing, and bombings.  Some analysts view this as a way of protesting against the peace process between Israel and Palestinians that is being promoted by the United States.  Others fear that we are in the early stages of another intifada—a violent uprising that will become widespread.

Growing threats to Israel

In response to the growing threats that the Jewish People are facing, we have made the commitment to do more than ever before to try to help and encourage them.  Jewish Voice is already working with more than two dozen ministry partners in Israel to reach out in the name and love of Yeshua to those in need.  But we must do more.  The need is great and growing, and we want to do everything possible to meet it.

Your gift today will equip us to touch the lives of more people in need, and share the Good News of Yeshua with them.  God has commanded us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and we must be faithful to that calling.  But today we can put feet to those prayers by meeting the practical needs of the Jewish People.  Thank you so much for standing with us in this important way.  God bless you.
