Revelation of Messiah - Prayer

February 25, 2014

The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.—James 5:16 NASB messiah

When Jesus (Yeshua) came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

“But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”—Matthew 16:13-17

Who is Yeshua?

As in His time on earth, there is still much confusion today – perhaps even more so – as to who Yeshua was and is. For instance, most Muslims would say He was a great prophet and messenger of allah, who will return someday to help set things right.  But they do not believe He was crucified, or that He is God.

Most Jews, whether in Israel or across the globe, would either agree that Yeshua was a false messiah or they would have little interest in or opinion about Him.  In other words, to Jewish People He is a heretic, irrelevant, or unknown.  Many others around the world from various belief systems today would perhaps say He was a good man, an eloquent teacher, an exemplary philosopher, or social activist. Or maybe they see Him as a deluded Galilean, long forgotten in the dusty past of the Middle East.

What is the truth?

However, there is another view.  In Matthew 16:13-17, Peter, known at times for his impulsiveness and blunders, gets it right.  He declares that Yeshua is Messiah, God’s Son, God’s own Anointed One.  And Yeshua verifies that this is not Peter’s opinion or fabrication; instead, Peter has gleaned this simple and startling insight by divine revelation from God Himself.  Peter’s declaration is not merely one way of looking at Yeshua among a smorgasbord of many viewpoints.  It is truth.

A prayer for revelation of Messiah

Father God, would You reach out right now to Jewish People, to Muslims, to atheists, and to others around the world, and give them revelation of who Yeshua truly is – Messiah, Savior, Son of God.  We cry out to You to bring this divine insight, and with it, eternal life and relationship with Him.  AMEN.
