Why Low-Tech Terror Attacks Are Sweeping Across Israel

A wave of low-tech terror attacks by Palestinians sweeping across Israel has some beginning to describe the bloodshed as a third intifada.

Following several weeks of unrest and violence on the Temple Mount and a series of stabbings across Israel, two separate attacks hit Jerusalem in a matter of minutes last Tuesday morning.

In one of these, a Palestinian driver rammed his vehicle into a group of people on a sidewalk, then exited the vehicle and began hacking at the wounded with a meat cleaver. Two minutes earlier, a combined shooting and stabbing attack in southern Jerusalem wounded several.

Some within Israel have accused Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas of incitement in recent weeks with his comments concerning the conflict over the Temple Mount.

For example, in a recent meeting with Palestinian activists, Abbas said, “Al-Aksa is ours and so is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. They have no right to desecrate them with their filthy feet. We won’t allow them to do so and we will do whatever we can to defend Jerusalem.”

Nevertheless, so far, the United Nations has only had words of criticism for Israel.
